THAT’S THE WAY I SAW IT
IT IS TIME TO START PAYING COLLEGE ATHLETES
They just finished the college basketball tournament. There were many games on TV and I do not think a ticket to the Final Four was $8.00.
How many bowl games are there? Most all of them are on TV. The baseball tournament may get a brand new stadium. College athletics has become big business. Look at the salaries of coaches.
Colleges no doubt operate under a not-for-profit status. Some members of congress should look into this as many want to get into the profits of big business.
I believe it is now time to start paying college athletes as they are being taken advantage of. This might enable them to stay with teams longer, but would the NCAA go this far. The NCAA is also big business.
Maybe this would create more problems, but it would put college athletics in its proper perspective. Teaching teamwork, having scheduled events for students to attend, and a character building program was the reasons for sport programs in colleges.
However, we will never get back to basics when millions of dollars are at stake.
