MIAMI MAKES IT TO SEMI-FINALS

Waynedale’s Miami Middle School Lady Soccer Team displayed outstanding ability throughout the 2008 soccer season. Coached by Doug Koerner and student assistant Dana Koomler, the Lady Indians held a 5-2-3 record in the regular season. The Lady Indians were led by captains Autumn Koomler, Danielle Wasson, and Emerald Stratton, all eighth graders. Goalkeeper Lorraine Graham refused five team shots therefore creating shutouts. Forward and Captain Autumn Koomler led the Indians with five consecutive hat tricks, or a set of three goals.

Koomler was also the leading scorer of the Indians with twenty-five goals throughout the entire season.
Seventh grader Myriam Barahas followed with eleven goals.

The Lady Indian’s defense was a force to be reckoned with, led by seventh grader Sarah Beyer and eighth grader Hilaria Heredia.

The entire Miami Lady Indians team displayed extreme teamwork and desire to win throughout the entire season. The Indians won their first post-season game against Lane Middle School with another Koomler hat trick and a goal by Barahas. The Indians faced Blackhawk Middle School Tuesday, May 13 for the semi-final round. They experienced their first post-season loss but ended a magnificent season.

The Lady Indians made it to the semi-final round of post season tournament, the farthest they have ever went in Coach Koerner’s five year as head coach.
