IF I HAD LIVED…

If I had lived in bible times
And walked the roads He trod,
Would I have known that Jesus was
My Lord, my Master, God?

If I had walked the sandy shores
By the Sea of Galilee
And heard him call the fisherman
To “Come and follow Me,”

Would I then, too have followed Him
And realized I had found
The Savior of the World, by whom
I stood on Holy ground?

Would I have strolled at Jesus’ side,
While basking in His love,
To hear Him tell just why He came
From Heaven’s throne above?

He’d tell me of our Father and
His great salvation plan
To sacrifice His perfect Son
For undeserving man.

I’d taste the water turned to wine,
See Lazarus once dead
Returned to life and thousands fed
On just five loaves of bread.

When Jesus spoke in parables,
Would I have understood
And always chosen as Mary
The part that He called ‘good’?

I’d watch Him cast the demons out
And heal the sick, the lame
Then suffer little ones to come
And call each one by name.

Would my faith shrink, as Peter’s did,
While heeding Christ’s command
To walk across the storm tossed waves
As if they were the land?

He does call me to fight the waves,
And when the breakers roar,
He holds me up and strengthens me,
Then brings me, safe, to shore.

I did not stand as Mary did
Beneath the cross that day
To ponder why her sinless Son
Should have to die that way.

But I know now, as she did then,
What He, at twelve, had meant
About His “Father’s business” and
The reasons He’d been sent.

Though, I was not among the twelve
He chose to spread His Word
I, too am His Disciple and
Must make His truth be heard.

I, too am asked to follow Him,
To witness and to pray
To “go and tell” in all the world,
To speak for Him each day.

My Savior’s with me constantly,
He watches from above
And lets me know in countless ways
Our Father’s boundless love.

My precious Jesus face to face
And yet I cannot see
Or touch his wounded hands and side,
But His hand touches Me.
