LUERS SEVEN OF ELEVEN
It was lucky numbers for a determined Luers football team. They won their 7th State Football Championship in 11 tries.
The Bishop Luers Knights found themselves in a defensive battle as their opponent, Heritage Christian, held them to zero points in the first half. The game was played at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis on Friday, November 23.
Late in the third quarter, with the game still locked up at 0-0, Luers quarterback Quinn Schafer found Adrien Spencer on the right side of the field for a 71-yard touchdown.
After the kick-off to Heritage Christian, the Knights put a pass rush on Heritage quarterback Garrett Meador. Luers Hammock sacked Heritage quarterback Meador, forcing a fumble which was recovered by Josh Archbold. The fumble recovery resulted in Luers’ second touchdown on a two-yard run by Isaac Baker.
The final score was 21-6 in favor of Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, for the 2007 Class 2A Indiana State Championship.
