COUNCILMAN’S CORNER
Quite a few readers of this column are customers of the AquaIndiana private water and sewer utility. Recently AquaIndiana stated that they will be requesting a rate hike in the near future. The best solution to the problem of higher cost, low quality water being provided to the AquaIndiana customers in southwest and northeast Fort Wayne would be for AquaIndiana to sell it’s system for a fair price to Fort Wayne City Utilities. Happily, the City of Fort Wayne plans to actively oppose any AquaIndiana rate hike. If you feel the same way state your case at the public hearing when that takes place in the future.
I was happy to vote for the recent City Council ordinance which makes it possible for the city to enforce current city code making it illegal to place political signs, commercial signs, etc., in the public right of way. Anyone can still place signs on private property as long as they are not in the public right of way–basically extending a few feet from the roadside. We need to make some adjustments in the ordinance to address the concerns of the real estate industry, but the measure passed recently is a definite step forward.
Many thanks to each and every one of you who registers to vote, supports your neighborhood association, and works on church projects, school projects, and great community efforts such as the Waynedale picnic!
