THAT’S THE WAY I SAW IT
WHO PROTECTED BASEBALL’S INTEGRITY AFTER BOWIE KUHN
Bowie Kuhn ex Baseball Commissioner died the other day. I remember him very well. I checked in my file to find a letter that he wrote to me on November 24, 1982. I had written him a letter telling him I thought he was doing a good job. His letter stated,”I really appreciate your fine letter of concern about my situation. This has not been an easy time as you can imagine but letters like yours have been a great help. I cannot thank you enough for taking the trouble to write and for your kind words.”
Can you believe this man answered people’s letters?
In the Sports Illustrated, March 22, 2007 article they claimed Bowie Kuhn had stated: “Most importantly the new commissioner must have a great sense of Baseball integrity and have a willingness to die in the trenches on integrity issues. The Hun will be at the gates…He should use his powers fearlessly to protect the integrity of the game. The critics will call him self-righteous and Moralistic.” “Have courage,” Kuhn wrote, “Ignore them.”
I guess no one came after Bowie Kuhn and That’s The Way I Saw It.
