COUNCILMAN’S CORNER
I’ve recently learned that some neighborhood leaders in the 4th Councilmanic district did not submit their request form for CEDIT (Community Economic Development Income Tax) neighborhood improvement projects which was due on or before March 15th of this year. The CEDIT request is an important part of the process of upgrading infrastructure such as sidewalks, streets, and streetlights in every neighborhood in the city. If your neighborhood didn’t submit its request by March 15th let me know and I’ll do all I can to make the process work for your neighborhood.
I’ve been receiving many calls, emails, and other input regarding the proposed Harrison Square project. Some of those expressing their opinion have suggested that we need to develop our downtown rivers rather than develop Harrison Square with its $60 million of new private downtown investment. This week some new interesting information became available. In addition to the proposed new development at Harrison Square south of Jefferson Blvd. there is a growing likelihood of significant private investment north of Headwater’s Park including a possible indoor water park in that area. This may prove to be an example of one investment leading to another—and our downtown and the citizens of Fort Wayne will be better off as a result.
Fort Wayne’s annual Cleanup Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 19th. After the cleanup is completed there will be festivities at Headwater’s Park including free food and music from 11 am until 2 pm that day. If your neighborhood hasn’t signed up to participate and is interested in doing so call the Solid Waste Department at 427-1270 for further information. This is an important event—”spring cleaning” for our entire city!
Give me a call with any suggestions as to how we can make our city a better place to live, work, study, and play!
