VETERAN’S WINNERS AT MARKLEBANK

In honor of our country’s veterans and Veterans’ Day, MarkleBank held a drawing in each of its five markets for veterans to win a flag that was flown over the United States Capitol.

James Ebbing is the Fort Wayne winner. His daughter, Julie, entered him into the drawing. Ebbing, of Mohawk heritage, served in the navy during the Korean War for 17 months and 18 days. His rank was Ship Service 2nd Class (SH 2). He also saw sea duty for 44 months as a destroyer escort aboard the USS Weldon 797 and the USS Goss 444. Based out of Long Beach, California. Ebbing was also involved with aircraft carriers, night plane guard, submarines, and anti-submarine warfare.

Mike Branstator, an army veteran, is the Markle winner. Branstrator was an SP4 and a combat engineer with the 27th Combat Engineers. He was stationed at Camp Eagle near Hue in Vietnam. He served from February 1970 through April 1971.

Robert Mullen is the Bluffton winner. Mullen was drafted into the Army on November 17, 1965 and was discharged November 16, 1967. Mullen was a Specialist E4 stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was a trainer in armor and trained West Point and ROTC cadets.

Larry Burnworth is the Huntington flag winner. Burnworth was also an SP4 in the Army. He served in the “A” Battery 18th Heavy Field Artillery (using 8-inch Howitzers) at Fort Sill, Oklahoma from 1957 through 1959.

Don Owen is the Warren flag winner. Owen served in the Army in 1969 and 1970 and was in Vietnam for 13 months. Owen is a member of the Montpelier American Legion.
