SMOKE ON THE WIND

‘TIS THE SEASON

I remember, as a kid growing up in Fort Wayne, that Christmas decorations did not come out until after Thanksgiving. Wow!This year, I saw them even before Trick or Treat. Oh well, enough of that. I have a good Christmas story for all you readers of Smoke on the Wind, and it’s a true story.

When we were kids growing up, we lived at 3430 South Harrison Street. My brother, James “Feather in the Wind” Ebbing, and I each had our own bed in a nice big bedroom upstairs. It was Christmas Eve and we were so excited we could not get to sleep.

My brother whispered to me (so as not to alarm Mom and Dad that we were still awake), “Tom, I don’t think there is a Santa Claus.”

I didn’t answer.

He said, “Tom, are you awake?”

“Yes, I’m awake,” I answered.

“Good,” Jim said, “Let’s sneak down a few steps and see if we can catch Mom and Dad putting presents under the Christmas tree.”

Okay,” I said, still a believer in Santa.

We quietly got out of our beds and looked through the rungs of the banister. Low and behold, guess what we saw. Yep, it was Mom and Dad putting presents under the tree. We snuck back to our room, and I started to cry.

My brother said, “Don’t cry, Tom. We can pretend that there is a Santa Claus, and that way we will probably get more stuff than if we tell. Besides, we don’t want to spoil all the fun for Mom and Dad. Let’s go to sleep now, and when we wake it’ll be Christmas Day.”

I love you, brother Jim.

God bless you, and God bless everyone.

Happy Birthday, Jesus.

My brother and I knew as little boys that You are the real reason for the season.

Thanks, Mom and Dad!

What a wonderful season, with all the beautiful decorations and the sound of beautiful music, children playing in the snow. Hot chocolate. Well, yes, of course, with the tiny marshmallows and a few cookies. Oh yeah, homemade ones that we’ve been waiting for all season. They are on the table!

Wait a minute, there is more. My favorite thing in all the world. Yep, you guessed it. Cocoa Fudge! Wow! There IS a God! And I thank him, along with you, for all our blessings. Most especially, I thank Him for sending us His Son to show us the way, the truth, and the light.

Yes, I’m talking about The Way Shower again. I believe He taught all mothers how to make cookies, and some received His special blessing and can make cocoa fudge. The cookies, fudge, and hot chocolate are Heaven on Earth when enjoyed with family and friends.

Oh, and that brings up another point. All of you who read Smoke on the Wind, well, your families and I love you all. And don’t forget, I sure do love cookies and cocoa fudge. Did you get the hint? Good!

God Bless You.

I must go now and make some hot chocolate to go with the…well, reading the next issue of The Waynedale News and Smoke on the Wind.
