MAYOR DECLARES MAY AS HISTORIC PRESERVATION MONTH

Mayor Graham Richard has declared May as National Historic Preservation Month in Fort Wayne.

Several organizations are hosting events which celebrate historic preservation and Fort Wayne’s historic heritage throughout the month of May. Brochures highlighting the events are available at several locations throughout the community. The photo on this year’s Historic Preservation Month poster was taken by Robert Pence of Fort Wayne. Pence’s picture (left) is of the rotunda inside the Allen County Courthouse. The poster, produced by the Indiana Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology, has been distributed statewide.

The City’s Historic Preservation Review Board and staff work to encourage the preservation of the City’s historic resources through local and national historic district designations as well as technical assistance to help property owners maintain or recapture the historic character of their properties. For additional information about the events scheduled this month or to learn more about the City’s Historic Preservation Program call 427-1127 or visit www.cityoffortwayne.org
