THE VOICE OF THE TOWNSHIP

Although it is one of the largest indigent assistance offices in the state, the Wayne Township Trustee Office operates very much like a not-for-profit organization. Where the similarities end is in the fact that the Township is the failsafe for all of those citizens that have exhausted all other resources, are under the income guidelines, and have nowhere else to turn. We are statutorily bound to help these needy neighbors while doing our best to help provide a long-term solution. The Wayne Township Trustee Office operates both a Homeless Shelter and Self-Sufficiency Program to meet the special needs of those that would otherwise be out in the freezing temperatures this winter.

The Homeless Shelter known as T.H.A.F. (Temporary Housing Assistance for Families) houses families that have lost their housing due to evictions, fires, relocation, or unlivable conditions at no cost for 30 days. The Self-Sufficiency program is designed to assist homeless, low-income families with housing, as well as, a holistic approach to self-sufficiency. Meaning our families have the opportunity to receive useful information and hands-on training to reach goals in education, employment, nutrition, budgeting, conflict resolution and many more areas of their lives that will enable our clientele to re-enter the workforce and become productive members of our community thus contributing to the housing stock of Allen County and becoming self-sufficient.

I am so very thankful to the Wayne Township Outreach Department whose 24/7 care has been serving the homeless and enabling families in transition to become self-sufficient for 14 years! Many families that have completed our program keep in touch with us to let us know how they are doing, and yes, they now pay taxes right along with the rest of us. The Outreach staff, like the rest of the Wayne Township Office, is never content. They are continuously searching for more and better ways to serve the less fortunate. On their own time, with their own kitchens and donated food items and gifts, I am as proud as they are excited to be sponsoring The Wayne Township Outreach Department 13th Annual Christmas Dinner on Saturday, December 17, 2005 at The League for the Blind and Disabled located at 5821 South Anthony Blvd.

The goal of the Annual Christmas Dinner is to share a Christmas meal with all the trimmings (turkey, ham, dressing, potato salad, yams, green beans, just to name a few items on the menu) with all of our families and support agencies we have worked with throughout the year. We also hope to enjoy a wonderful evening of music, singing, and laughter of our children and youth as they open their gifts from Santa and celebrate the Holiday Season.

Although incredibly successful, community events such as our Outreach “Annual Christmas Dinner,” “The Great Easter Egg Hunt” and the “Annual Fall Costume Party” depend on our community support system. We receive many donations from the community to sponsor our events. These wonderful events for our youth would not be possible without the help of the many businesses and churches in our area that give so generously. We would like to take this opportunity to say:

Thank You to the Fort Wayne Community!

We appreciate your continued support for the past 14 years!

On behalf of the Wayne Township Outreach and Homeless staff, and the rest of the employees, have a most Wonderful and Joyous Holiday Season.
