BLAZERS FIVE-STATE TOURNEY CHAMPS
The Lady Blazers of Roanoke Baptist School traveled to Louisville, KY to participate in a 5-state volleyball tournament.
They entered the tournament with a perfect 14-0 record and took the first match against Zion’s Hill with no trouble. Then they came up against a tough Madison team and lost their first match of the year, not playing their best. Calculating their chances to get into the championship game, they decided to purposely lose the next game against Northwest. This meant that if they won the rest of their games, they could avoid the top-ranked North Hardin team until the championship match. North Hardin was this year’s Kentucky State Champs. The strategy worked and the Roanoke Blazers and North Hardin faced off in the championship match. About midway in the first game, Roanoke trailed by 9 points. Then they went into high gear and ended up winning 25-23. In the second game the Blazers kept the pressure on and won 25-18.
The Lady Blazers Junior Varsity took second place in the junior varsity division, losing in the championship match to North Hardin 21-18 and 25-19.
Meredith Mills received the MVP award, Jessica North took all-tourney in both varsity and junior varsity and Rachel Reffe took all-tourney in varsity.
Roanoke Baptist School is located at 11015 Lafayette Center Road, Roanoke, Indiana.
