FIRST SERGEANT DOAK HONORED
First Sergeant Peter M. Doak was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on March 27, 1959. He comes from a family of 13 and has a twin brother Paul. He is a 1977 graduate of Elmhurst High School. 1SG Doak entered the Army in August of 1977. He completed Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was assigned to C Company 82nd Engineering Battalion in Bamberg, Germany as a combat engineer.
After a break in service 1SG Doak joined the U.S. Army Reserve, 221 Ordnance Company and served as an 88M, Vehicle Operator, Section Sergeant, and Platoon Sergeant of a Service and Maintenance platoon. In 2002 he reclassified to 89B MOS, Ammunition Specialist, and assumed the duties of Platoon Sergeant of Second Platoon (AmmoII).
1SG Doak’s military education includes Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, and Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course. He was the honor Graduate of his ANCOC class.
His awards include the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal with silver oak leaf cluster, Army Achievement Medal with silver oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal with service star, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with 10-year device, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, 2 Army Component Overseas Training Ribbons, and Driver’s Badge.
In an email from 1SG Doak, which The Waynedale News received on March 24, 2005, he writes, “We are 9.5 hours ahead of Indiana time. Our unit, 221 Ordnance Company, should be leaving Afghanistan soon after 12 months of service in country. We will be returning to Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, our mobilization station, for 5 to 10 days to outprocess. From there, most of the soldiers will board a bus and travel home to Fort Wayne, where there will be a celebration at the Memorial Coliseum. These soldiers will be departing Fort McCoy to their home stations in WI, IL, MN and other areas. They were assigned to the 221st OD CO to fill a number of vacancies and performed outstandingly. We will miss these great people!

1SG Doak and his wife Glenna, have a 14-year old daughter named Hollie, 3 stepsons, John, Jeremy, and Josh and 2 grandchildren, Harley and Jaron.
