SCOUTING SMOKE SIGNALS

The Waynedale area Boy Scouts are certainly lucky that Troop#38 doesn’t mind doing the “Lions Share” of the work in order to allow‑the area‑Scouts to have some indoor fun over the winter months. The troop sponsored their first lock-in of the season at the Southeast YMCA over the weekend of December 11 and a great time was had by all.

Scoutmaster Jerry Lloyd and the Troop #38 Committee arranged to have the YMCA building available for use along with a lifeguard‑on duty‑and YMCA Staff present. They also had Papa John’s Pizza on alert for a 10:30p.m. snack consisting of 1/2 of a large pizza per Scout.

After a safety briefing by the YMCA Staff the Scouts had access to all areas of the building. Some Scouts chose to use the pool to complete some requirements for Scouting Advancements while others just chose to have some fun in the water with their fellow Scouts. The Game Room was open with air hockey, foosball, and other games. The gymnasium had several pick up games of roundball going constantly in order to warm up for the midnight HORSE Tournament. And the indoor track always had some Scouts in motion whether it was for advancement or just for a good time.

The Scouts even brought some of their own entertainment with them in the form of electronic games and the tried-and-true card games and board games. Just about all forms of entertainment were represented.

Whether it is for further Scouting advancements, or to just get out of the winter weather for a change of pace and fellowship with other Scouts, the weekend was good for a great deal of fun.

Troop #38 deserves a round of thanks and applause for all of “the behind the scenes” work that is required to make an activity like this happen. It takes more than a little effort to pull this off, but judging from the attendance, it is well worth the effort.
