THE VOICE OF THE TOWNSHIP

One of the greatest joys that a person can experience is to see uncontrollable happiness and laughter on the face of a child. Children whose parents are struggling to meet the most basic of needs can sustain almost anything personally, but find their most challenging obstacles in helping ensure that their children perceive no difference from themselves than with their other playmates.

The goal of the Wayne Township Trustees’ Office has always been to provide emergency assistance to those who have no other means of support. Self-Sufficiency is the long-term goal for all Wayne Township clients. In an effort to help our clients achieve this independent status, the Wayne Township Trustees’ Office created the Outreach Self-Sufficiency program. At the end of this month, the Outreach Department will take center stage to see that all these smiles find their rightly place on the faces of our children in need as we once again celebrate the season with the fall carnival and costume party.

This program is located at Centlivre Apartments, which also houses a Homeless Shelter. The Homeless Shelter stabilizes families for 30 days that have lost their housing as a result of eviction, relocation, or unlivable conditions. The Self-Sufficiency program is designed to assist homeless, low-income families with housing, as well as the opportunity to reach goals in education, employment, job training, nutrition, budgeting and many more skills that will allow our clientele to re-enter the workforce and become self-sufficient.

The Wayne Township Trustee Outreach Department is proud to announce that we will be sponsoring our 4th Annual “Fall Costume Party” October 29, 2004 (6:00 pm – 8:00 pm) at the League for the Blind and Disabled located at 5821 South Anthony Boulevard.

Every shelter that houses children in the City of Fort Wayne is invited to bring their youth (ages 3 – 16) out for an evening of carnival games and activities, dinner and a costume contest to celebrate the fall season.

Some children in transition, without permanent housing, have experienced the situation of a carnival being held at their school but perhaps were not able to attend because their parents did not have the money in their budget for the entire family to participate or the transportation to get the family to and from the event.

The purpose of the Fall Costume Party is to get children in transition together in a safe and friendly atmosphere for a fun evening of games, prizes, food and much more. It is an attempt to keep their lives as normal as other children that are in permanent housing. Some of the many games they will enjoy at no cost are the following: Bingo, Toilet toss (yes- toilet toss and it’s not what it sounds like), pop toss, football throw, cookie decorating, temporary tattoos, face painting, Tic Tac Toss, Cake Walk, Go Fishing and more! This event, like all other special projects undertaken by the Wayne Township Office and its employees, is donation driven and virtually at no cost to the taxpaying citizens of this community.

We will heartily welcome donations from the public to help make this fall celebration a great success. Call Lois DaDa at 260-449-7000 for additional details.

ALL CHILDREN LIVING IN TRANSITIONAL HOUSING ARE WELCOME!
