ENGLEWOOD HEALTH & REHABILITATION CENTER OPENS MEMORY CARE WING
Seniors with Alzheimer’s disease now have a new, resident-focused place they can call home. On January 1, 2004, Englewood Health & Rehabilitation Center opened Touchstone Terrace, a wing developed specifically for residents with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
“We believe Touchstone Terrace is able to fill a void in the southwest Fort Wayne area for seniors with Alzheimer’s,” said David McMahan, Administrator for Englewood. “There are other facilities with large dementia care units, but ours is designed for more personal, hands-on environment. Englewood partners with hospitals and consultants to stay abreast of the latest discoveries and care methodologies in Alzheimer’s, so that we can provide the best care possible to our residents.”
The recently renovated 20-bed wing is designed to have a personal, focused and secure environment. The memory care center, called Touchstone Terrace, has staff that works exclusively in the unit, professional staffing around the clock, seven days a week, and an outdoor area.
Touchstone Terrace provides a different approach to working with residents coping with Alzheimer’s. The staff focuses on therapeutic activities as an integral part of resident care plans. Constant activity scheduled in short, repetitive intervals, is customized to each resident’s abilities.
Working on cognitive skills through therapy helps slow the natural decline from the disease.
Englewood Health & Rehabilitation Center is located at 2237 Engle Road, on Fort Wayne’s southwest side. For more information about Englewood and Touchstone Terrace, contact
