THE VOICE OF THE TOWNSHIP
On Friday October 17, 2003 one of the great highlights of Wayne Township Office was lining the sidewalks in front of our office anticipating the arrival of the 1/293rd Infantry Battalion, our hometown heroes! The Township posted thank you signs and waved flags when they came down Lafayette Street to show our support and appreciation for what they had done. The essential function of the Township is to provide community service. We take special pride in recognizing those individuals for risking their lives for the freedoms we enjoy! Wayne Township is always looking for ways to expand our services. One of the ways we are doing this is by being involved and finding out the true needs of community. We are doing this by reaching out to one of the unsung heroes of our community the veteran population.
Once again, for the fourth year in a row, we are hosting the Veterans Stand Down and Healthy Cities Health Fair. It will be held on Friday, November 14, between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, at the Wayne Township Trustee Office located at 320 E. Superior Street. Healthy Cities provides a variety of health screenings and immunizations to adults who are uninsured or underinsured. In addition to these health services, homeless and near homeless veterans can receive warm clothing, blankets, and meet social service providers that can help them. All participants can take advantage of non-health related services, too, such as the free lunch after 10:30 AM, free hair cuts, and free used clothing.
The Northeast Indiana Homeless Taskforce is a committee comprised of concerned social service agencies and individuals working together to make this event happen. I wish I could list everyone responsible, but space does not allow it. I would like to show my sincerest appreciation for all of the Agencies and volunteers for doing an amazing job of coordinating to make this special event possible!
