The Elmhurst Trojans completed their 2003 football season by losing the first game of the sectional to Bishop Dwenger 56-19. Dwenger came onto the Trojan home field hoping that a big win might erase the loss they experienced back at the first game of the season. Dwenger got the win, but there was no way to erase the earlier loss. The win back on August 8th was Elmhursts’ first win in 64 games.

That first win against Dwenger not only shocked Fort Wayne, it shocked the nation. The upset victory of a team that had struggled for so many years, against a team that was ranked #1 in the state, will keep people talking for years to come.

Elmhurst went on to win against Wayne on September 19th (31-14) and then again against North Side on October 3rd (19-6).

Congratulations for a great season to Elmhurst Principal Laura Taliaferro, Athletic Director Julie Hollingsworth, Coach Roosevelt Norfleet and staff, and all the football players that went out there every week and did their best.

The Warriors completed a successful varsity football season by capturing the school’s third football City Championship. They defeated Shawnee in a close game 12-8 and then defeated Portage 34-18. In the City Championship game the Warriors defeated Blackhawk 35-12 to bring home the championship. Derek Evans scored 8 touchdowns during the playoffs while DeMikel Tinker added 2 touchdowns and Kolton Hopkins and Duran Brown each added 1. The team had solid line play from Aaron Stucker, Timmothis Giddens, Josh Walker, Joe Avila, and Michael Carpenter. The defense led by Justin Walker, Derrik Barker, Mark Niemeyer, Ben Leslie, and Chris Bonner allowed only 4 touchdowns in the playoffs. The special teams game improved as Kyle Arthur kicked 6 extra points in the playoffs. Many seventh graders including Corey Follins, Jeff Ross, and Tyler Chrismore contributed to the teams success.

The team and coaches would like to thank all of the staff, students, friends, and family for supporting us throughout the season. The coaches would like to thank the eighth grade players for a very enjoyable season and to wish them the best as they play in high school. The coaches are looking forward to working with the returning sixth and seventh graders as we set out next season to defend our City Championship.
