LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Dear Mr. Barleycorn,

As per Doctor B’s opinion on outside issues, in the last Here’s To Your Health article, it seems Doctor B is making complicated stuff of something simple! When a sponsor works Step 4, (made a searching and fearless truth inventory of ourselves), and Step 5: (admitted to God and another human being the exact nature of our wrongs), it almost always fixes their other phobia’s, disorders, symptoms and alcoholism and addictions. So long as they continue through the rest of the steps and continue to work an appropriate daily program, they get better. But, most people working in today’s treatment field don’t know how to work a thorough 4th and 5th Step, let alone the others.

A thorough 4th Step inventory eliminates most of these other problems and outside issues. The problem is, few people in AA know how to do a thorough 4th Step much less show another suffering person how to do it. Almost no doctor, preacher, teacher, or Rabbi, unless they are members of AA, know how to do a thorough, by-the-book (Alcoholics Anonymous) 4th Step, so they are at a loss when it comes to “associated disorders”. We must get back to 4th Step basics and good AA Sponsorship, and then many will recover. Until then, we will rely on the doctor’s doing the best they can with their chemical solutions. One alcoholic relating to another alcoholic is the only known solution to chronic alcoholism.

The wreckage of the past, caused by us or others is cleared away by a thorough housecleaning.

Change is essential, forgetting and forgiving, and giving up the victim role.

Social workers, physiologist, and psychiatrist all need victims. No victims, no job. So they perpetuate the ‘poor me, I’m a victim of ????? Syndrome’ in order to keep their paychecks coming.

The 12 Steps work without social work or pills. Let’s quit trying to answer the ‘why’ of everything and just ‘do it’. Let’s get the 4th Step written down on paper and get on with life.

Please Return Shovels,

Would the person or persons (driving an older white or yellow I.H. Scout-type vehicle) who were filling sandbags in the court center of Gates Court in Belle Vista Addition about 2am on Thursday, July 10th please return the 5 new shovels you took that were generously provided to the neighbors by Umbers Ace Hardware, at cost, to help us save our homes from the flood waters. No questions asked, just please return them ASAP. You can keep the sandbags, but please return the shovels.

Dear Editor,

The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department-Community Center 2003 Senior Games participants, Larry Davis (Senior Games Coordinator) and I wish to publicly thank the American Legion Post #241 for their donation, which was recently used to help underwrite the expenses for the awards honoring 137 participants.

The goal of the annual Senior Games is to promote the benefits of remaining active and physically fit and to encourage all adults over 50 to adopt a healthy, enjoyable lifestyle. Everyone in the Fort Wayne area is invited to participate in next year’s Senior Games to be held June the 7th through the 18th, 2004.
