BIG BOY WHERE DID YOU GO?

About 3 weeks ago, on a Friday afternoon, across the street from Azar’s Restaurant you could hear someone shouting, “Where are you taking Big Boy?”

Well, John Ferrise, district manager, called The Waynedale News asking if we would help him take Big Boy for a ride across town. So we called up our good ol’ Waynedale buddy, Kirk Gemple of Gemple Motors and asked Kirk if he would loan us a truck to haul Big Boy. Of course, Kirk said, “Sure.”

Jo Kindy, manager of Waynedale’s Azar’s tells us that Big Boy was in much need of a bath and a new paint job, so he took a ride to the Corporate Office.” “If he’s not back yet, he will be shortly.”

Azar’s Restaurant and Big Boy are now completely remodeled.

The original restaurant in Waynedale opened on March 16, 1964. It was located behind the existing structure as an “L” shaped building with seating inside for 68 and a curb service for 50 cars. In July of 1985, the existing structure was built to eliminate the curb service and expand the inside seating.

A complete remodel of the interior was completed in April 2000 to further adapt to the changing dining habits. The coffee shop-style restaurant was transformed into a family style restaurant by eliminating a majority of booths and concentrating on full service.

Waynedale’s Big Boy now offers breakfast all day, seven days a week. Their incredible “All You Can Eat” breakfast buffet starts at 10pm on Fridays. They still serve the “Big Boy” sandwich – the original double deck hamburger. And on Friday nights they offer a Fish Buffet from 4pm-10pm. This too is “All You Can Eat.”
