THE VOICE OF THE TOWNSHIP
Once again, for the third year in a row, we are hosting the Veterans Stand Down and Healthy Cities Health Fair. It will be held on Friday, November 1, between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM, at the Wayne Township Trustee Office located at 320 E. Superior Street. Healthy Cities provides a variety of health screenings and immunizations to adults who are uninsured or underinsured. In addition to these health services, homeless and near homeless veterans can receive warm clothing, blankets, and meet social service providers that can help them. All participants can take advantage of non-health related services, too, such as the free lunch after 10:30 AM, free hair cuts, and free used clothing.
The Northeast Indiana Homeless Taskforce is a committee comprised of concerned social service agencies and individuals working together to make this event happen. The primary sponsors are the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System and the Allen County Dept. of Health. I wish I could list everyone responsible, but space does not allow it. I would like to show my sincerest appreciation for Ms. Linda L. Graham, MSN, RN, CS – an associate professor of nursing at IPFW – for doing an amazing job of coordinating all of the health services. We couldn’t have done it without her!
I would like to take a moment to update you on some money-saving practices that I’ve implemented over the past four years. By utilizing qualified staff to make certain capital improvements, I’ve saved taxpayers approximately $50,000. When it was necessary to hire outside contractors, I accepted competitive bids and tried to hire from within Wayne Township. By renting out our parking lot during festivals, I’ve brought in over $17,000 to Wayne Township. By submitting to the federal government, I made sure the township was reimbursed over $100,000 that was spent on behalf of clients who were eligible for SSI, yet were still pending their benefits. I also prosecuted individuals who had committed fraud against the township, who are then, by law, ineligible for township assistance for thirty years. I look forward to another term of stewardship and community service on behalf of the citizens/taxpayers of Wayne Township.
Finally, I would like to thank you for your patience and support during this election season. Although campaign signs can be unsightly at times, I would like to assure you that my team and I will remove my signs as quickly as possible after the election.
