THE VOICE OF THE TOWNSHIP
We here at Wayne Township just finished up a couple of major events, namely a sign-up day for pharmaceutical savings cards and the awards banquet for our 3rd annual Computer Explorers camp. We enjoyed a small breather, but the momentum continues for us. On Saturday, August 10th, we participated in the Black Expo parade and had a great time. And on Sunday, August 11, we assisted the Minority Health Coalition of Allen County with their 4th annual Children’s Health Fair.
The Twenty-first Century Scholars staff has also been incredibly busy. They marched with several of their students in the Black Expo parade, as well as in the Harambi Festival’s parade the week prior. They recently took several youth to check out colleges. They visited Purdue University in West Lafayette and Indiana University in Bloomington. And after all of that, they are running their “Scholar Blast” summer camp, which serves 35-45 youth. The camp combines fun with lessons in personal development, and adds a bit of career information. Our Outreach department, which runs the self-sufficiency program and homeless shelter, also had a pleasant event when they took participants and their children to the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo last Friday.
On August 27th, Healthy Neighbors medical outreach program is utilizing our office to give free physical exams to individuals who do NOT have insurance to cover such exams. Exam includes blood/urine tests, height/weight, blood pressure, physical exam, and referrals to other services if needed. These exams are by appointment only, and there are just a few spots left. If you wish to make an appointment, please call my office at 449-7000.
Finally, I would like to remind parents who may need township assistance to save your receipts for back-to-school clothes. We can count these expenses as basic necessities, and you can still get help with your rent and utilities.
