“GARDENING SOLUTIONS”

This is the theme of the 2002 Home and Garden Show, which runs from February 27, through March 3, 2002. Highlights of the show include ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS FREE GARDENING SEMINARS throughout the show upstairs in the Red Room. In addition, Master Gardeners will be available to answer garden questions at their booth located in the Garden Hall. Stop by and purchase seed collected by the Master Gardener volunteers.

 

YOUNG GARDENERS, APPLY NOW FOR SUMMER, 2002 YOUTH GARDEN PROGRAM

Space is limited for the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service’s fifth annual Allen County Master Gardener Youth Volunteer Program for children ages 8 – 12. Apply now at the Purdue Cooperative Extension Office. Space is limited.

The children will participate in a gardening curriculum, hands-on learning, and educational field trips. The students receive a handbook with gardening information and learn from instructors about: garden safety, plant propagation, soil, fertilizer, vegetables, compost and worm composting, annuals, biennials, perennials, turf and lawnmower safety, insects, plant diseases, herbs, wildlife, trees, biotech, water gardening, cooking from your garden, weather, and gardening, fairy gardens, and indoor plants.

Classroom instructors include Purdue Master Gardeners, Dr. Larry Yoder for Goshen College and Jason Morrison, naturalist. Contact Ricky Kemery, at 481-6826, in the Purdue Cooperation Extension Office, 4001 Crescent Avenue on IPFW’s campus for an application. A registration fee of $30 covers the curriculum materials, plant materials, and supplies, as well as a T-shirt. The class will be limited to 20 students on a first-come, first served basis.
