THE VOICE OF THE TOWNSHIP

Last year, we kicked off our plan to expand the Workfare Program. The first step was to inform the directors and staff of not-for-profit agencies about the program, and how they can benefit from becoming a partner with us. We hosted an orientation workshop to explain the program and answer questions. For those who are unfamiliar with our Workfare Program, certain clients who receive assistance are required to participate by performing a variety of services at local not-for-profit organizations. It’s a win-win situation because the clients are receiving assistance and work experience, the agencies get the help they need at no cost, and the taxpayers can know that their resources are not being wasted.

In early March, Wayne Township is hosting its second annual Workfare Workshop. This year we are inviting a variety of agencies to sign up, which will allow us greater flexibility in placing our clients. Through this orientation meeting, agency staff will gain a better understanding of the program and have an opportunity to sign up. Also, with their feedback, we will continue to improve and expand the Workfare Department.

I appreciate the relationships our office has built with not only the agencies, but with the clients as well. I would like to thank the staff of the Workfare Department. They do a tremendous job in their daily activities, as well as going above and beyond in the improvement of their department.
