AMERICAN LEGION DAVID PARRISH POST 296

If you have flags to be retired, bring them to the Post for our Flag Disposal Ceremony, October 13 at 5pm. This is the proper way to dispose of a flag which we identify as a symbol of peace. Remember all Veterans and POW/MIAs every day.

A NOTE FROM AMERICAN LEGION POST 296 Vice Commander

Many Americans are concerned about proper disposal of American Flags, which have worn out in use. They might have been flown over Veteran’s graves, outside homes or in front of businesses. While those worn out flags might be pieces of cloth with no intrinsic value, they have a real value beyond price. They represent the ideals of this nation, for which soldiers and sailors have fought and died and they should be disposed of with respectful and honorable rites.

American Legion Post 296, 130 West Tillman Road (west of Calhoun Street) Fort Wayne, has scheduled flag disposal ceremonies on Saturday, October 13th at 5pm. Individuals who have flags to be disposed of can bring them to the post prior to that date or you can bring them there on that date and remain for the ceremonies.

The flag disposal ceremony is a reverent and fitting event which honorably commits the worn out flags to clean and purging flames. All members of the community are invited to attend these moving rites. The ceremonies will be followed by a hog roast and dance. Call 456-2988 for further information or to make reservations for the dinner.

Phil Ader, Vice Commander
