WELCOME BACK TO THE GREAT OUTDOORS AT INDIANA STATE PARKS AND RESERVOIRS!

The temperature is rising, the fish are biting, and the wildflowers along our hiking trails signal that you are welcome to enjoy a wide array of outdoor activities at our 24 state parks and nine reservoirs. Welcome back weekend is April 30 – May 2. This is the perfect time to plan for a weekend of wildlife watching, a night by a crackling campfire and a day or two to relax and escape a hectic world without traveling far from home. Load up the car or pack up the camper and join us.

There will be ‘Free Gate Admission’ on Sunday, May 2, 2010, a special way to say welcome back to summer. Entrance gate fees will be waived at all state park and reservoir properties on Sunday, May 2. Visit for a day hike or bike ride, stop by a State Park Inn for lunch, take in a program with the interpretive naturalist or just go for a drive through your favorite property. Take the opportunity to pick up your annual entrance pass, pool pass or lake permit for the year while you’re visiting. Some activities during the weekend include:

•Morel Mushroom Festival at Brown County State Park

•A May Day evening bonfire at Clifty Inn

•A Sunset Stroll at Pokagon

•A Night Hike/Owl Prowl at Shades

•First tours of the Lusk Home for the season at Turkey Run

•A wildflower hike in Cave River Valley Natural Area with Spring Mill interpretive staff

•Disc Golf tournament at Raccoon State Recreation Area

•Cast-iron cooking demonstrations by the “Cast-Iron Butterflies” at Roush, Salamonie and Mississinewa lakes

•A fitness walk at Mounds State Park, Monroe Lake, Brookville Lake and several other locations

•A “Tour de Dunes” bike hike at Indiana Dunes State Park
