“FLAGS-IN” AT PRAIRIE GROVE CEMETARY

For more than half a century, we have honored America’s fallen heroes by placing American flags before the gravestones and niches of service members just prior to Memorial Day weekend.

This tradition, known as “flags in,” has been conducted annually at both Arlington National Cemetery and the U. S. Soldier’s and Airmen’s Home National Cemetery since The Old Guard (the 3rd U.S. Infantry) was designated as the Army’s official ceremony unit in 1948.

As part of this yearly memorial activity, many veterans, families of veterans, and children from American Legion Post #241 will participate. Each grave with a military notation, will receive a small American flag on Saturday, May 24th at 8:30am at Prairie Grove Cemetery, Old Trail Road in Waynedale. The flags are donated by the Allen County Council for Veterans. All flags will be removed after Memorial Day.
