GRANDPARENTS/V.I.P. DAY AT MIAMI MIDDLE SCHOOL

The Miami School choir, Sound Machine, opened with a song and middle school student, Aubrey Vandall, read a poem describing the way she felt about her grandparents. Another student, Josh Saylor, read an essay about his grandparents and then Miami School principal, Mrs. Craig, introduced the Superintendent of Fort Wayne Community Schools, Dr. Wendy Robinson.

Dr. Robinson mentioned that she often felt more like a third grade teacher rather than the Superintendent of Schools, as she has always been a teacher first. She emphasized that the two rocks in a student’s life are their family and their school. The schools need and welcome the family’s participation and through proper communication they can work together to provide the educational experience the kids need. “Don’t ever be too busy to be a part of your kids life. If you don’t have time for them while they’re in middle school, then they won’t have time for you when they’re eighteen.”

Door prizes were given to lucky ticket holders and then Mrs. Craig closed the proceedings. Visitors were encouraged to enjoy refreshments and tour the Miami School facilities.
