MAYOR GRAHAM RICHARD

I recently joined Congressman Mark Souder to announce that the City of Fort Wayne was awarded $727,467 in funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The funds from HUD’s Supportive Housing Program will fund the City’s Continuum of Care Strategy.
The City’s Continuum of Care plan will help social service agencies deliver housing and services to meet the needs of homeless individuals as they become self-sufficient and move into stable housing. The plan will also allow the City of Fort Wayne to maximize its portion of federal funds to address gaps in homeless care.
Agencies receiving these funds must match them with funds from private sources. Funds were awarded to Cedars Hope, Vincent House, Hope House, the Fort Wayne Women’s Bureau, the YWCA, the Margaret Alexander CHILD Center and the Family and Social Services Administration. To fully understand the problem of homelessness in Fort Wayne this must be a community wide effort. The partners included in the Continuum of Care strategy not only provide shelter, but other services for the homeless, including mental health and substance abuse counseling, job training and domestic violence prevention.
Thanks to the efforts of the City’s Community Development Department and the support of our partners throughout the City, we will leverage these resources and encourage more public-private partnerships to provide housing opportunities for lower income residents.
