UNITY LUTHERAN SEND SCHOOL SUPPLIES AFGHANISTAN CHILDREN TO RECEIVE
Students at Unity Lutheran, Calhoun Street, gathered and packed containers of school supplies the month of December. These containers were taken to Afghanistan by SFC Steve Kingsley when he returned to active duty with the Army in Afghanistan on January 1, 2005. SFC Kingsley will be distributing the containers to the Afghanistan children.
Children from all grades collected pencils, crayons, rulers, water paints, erasers, washable markers, notebook paper, glue sticks, colored pencils, scissors, all-purpose glue, construction paper, cards, calculators, balls, match box cars, dolls and other items.
Lutheran Hour Ministeries provided a booklet, “The Little Shepherd” which tells the story of the birth of Jesus.
United States flags were placed on each item to assure that the Afghanistan children would know where the items came from. The entire school participated in the collection process with the kindergarten and sixth grade classes packing the materials.
Spearheading the entire event were Kris Kingsley, wife of SFC Kingsley, and Diana Taylor. SFC Kingsley and his wife have a son in the sixth grade and Diana Taylor has a daughter in kindergarten.
