BROADVIEW HONORING VETERANS
Doug Hackbarth, owner of Broadview Florist and Greenhouses carefully orders, labels and prepares 100,000 plants that will find new homes in Waynedale lawns, gardens and gravesites within a two-week period. Memorial Day and Mother’s Day, two holidays that spar annually for the coveted title of “weekend safest to plant” are a yearly jubilee for the business.
Each year before the holidays the store increases its selection of silk arrangements and live planters brimming with geraniums and spring flowers. Other hot sellers, garden favorites of the melon family, include cantaloupes, cucumbers and squash.
The store, to accommodate the swell in demand for God’s little beauties, hangs out the Welcome sign on Sundays in the month of May from 10am-4pm and will also be open on Memorial Day from 10am-2pm, following the store’s debut in the Waynedale Memorial Day Parade. This year will be the first time in its 50-year history that Broadview will participate in the annual parade. Owner Doug Hackbarth plans to add a touch of beauty to the throng honoring area departed veterans.
