USF SENIOR LEFT-HANDER NAMED MCC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
University of Saint Francis senior pitcher Chris Howell has been named Mid-Central College Conference Pitcher of the Week after picking up two wins and helping the Cougars to their first ever 6-0 start in conference competition.
Howell (Fort Wayne, IN / Bishop Dwenger H.S.) is the first USF pitcher to win four games before the end of March and did it with two complete-game wins last week. He is tied for the league lead in wins as well.
On Sunday, March 25, the left-hander picked up win No. 4 with a 10-4 decision against Grace. Howell pitched one-hit ball the first five innings while his teammates built a comfortable10-0 lead. On Tuesday, March 20, Howell struck out eight and walked one to help USF open MCC play with a 3-1 win over Goshen.
Howell finished the two games with a 1.93 ERA and 10 strikeouts.This is the second time Howell has been named MCC Pitcher of the Week. He won the award as a freshman with Taylor University in March of 2008. He also was NAIA Region VIII Pitcher of the Week. This is his first season pitching for USF.
