FWA PASSES ANNUAL FAA INSPECTION

Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) has now had three years without any discrepancies in its annual Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspection. The most recent annual certification inspection took place August 8-10, 2017, and was administered by the FAA – Great Lakes Region Certification Safety Inspectors.

FWA finished its most recent annual inspection on August 10, 2017 after three days of an on-site inspector thoroughly examining all areas of airport operations. This year marks three consecutive years of FAA inspections with no discrepancies found.

“This is a huge accomplishment, and the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority staff works very hard to make sure that we provide the safest and most efficient airfield and services that we can. The fact that we had zero discrepancies for a third consecutive year proves that the Airport Authority makes operations and safety our number one priority,” said Scott Hinderman, Executive Director of Airports.

The comprehensive inspection reviews all areas of airport operations including everything from record keeping practices, to aircraft rescue and fire response. As of June 30, 2017, the Great Lakes Region Certification Safety Inspectors had completed 50 airport inspections and found approximately 107 total discrepancies in the various operations.

Discrepancies in these inspections can be found in many areas such as signage and lighting, operational requirements and the handling and storage of hazardous chemicals. Receiving a discrepancy indicates that the airport may have specific areas within their operations that need reevaluated and addressed.

The FAA, which is a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation, commended FWA for keeping thorough records and procedures, as well as excellent day-to-day airport operations. The FAA also praised the appearance of the airport terminal building as an indicator of the effectiveness of all around operations.
