INTERESTED IN HOMESCHOOLING BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK? – Homeschooling Is Where The Heart Is!

Have you been discussing the possibility of homeschooling your child with family and friends? Odds are some of these individuals have not encouraged you and possibly flooded you with negative comments and what if questions.

What do you do when you don’t receive support from those whose opinions matter to you?

First of all, do not let their negativity and quite possibly their fear of homeschooling shake your confidence. Remember that these people want what’s best for your child also. They haven’t had the benefit of talking to other parents who homeschool, researching the homeschooling lifestyle and discovering all the wonderful resources (people, places, and things) that Fort Wayne has to offer to homeschooling families. I’ve had more than one homeschooling mom tell me that their parents did not approve of the idea in the beginning. It usually doesn’t take grandma and grandpa long to change their mind as they begin to reap the benefits of you homeschooling their grandchild.

For those of you whose parents and friends don’t see the homeschooling light, after a while, make sure you are connected with and receiving support from one of the many homeschool groups in your community. It has been my experience that the majority of homeschooling parents are down to earth and excited to encourage other parents, especially the ones who have just started homeschooling. If you enjoy honesty and the lack of putting on airs you’ll fit right in! Most homeschooling parents’ energy is not placed on their or their child’s perfection but on teaching, experiencing and learning about life and the skills needed to journey through it.

Until next month God bless you and your little or not so little ones!
