Little River Wetlands Project, a local nature organization protecting almost 1,200 acres of natural and restored wetlands in Allen and Huntington Counties, offers interesting and informative nature events this September through November. All are free and open to the community.

“Winter Wonders: Weeds and Seeds”
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne.
Fun for all ages. We’ll start in the barn exploring different seeds and their importance to our wintering animals. Then we’ll hike looking for and identifying the marsh’s winter plants and their bounty. Dress for the trails and the weather.

“Mud or Snow: Tracks Tell Where the Animals Go!”
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne.
Tracks let us know where animals travel. We’ll start with interactive fun in the barn creating animal tracks in sandboxes to learn their shapes. Then, whether we have mud or snow, we’ll hike looking for animal tracks and signs on the marsh. Fun for all ages. Dress for the trails and weather.

“Breakfast on the Marsh: The Berm, New Continental Divide, and 2016”
Light breakfast and nature presentation for nature lovers 50+ at Coventry Meadows Senior Community on W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne.
Betsy Yankowiak, LRWP’s Director of Preserves and Programs, will update us on the berm construction at Eagle Marsh, how we created a new continental divide, and what to look forward to in 2016. Contact info@lrwp.org or 260-478-2515 to reserve a spot.

6:30 to 8 p.m.
“Soarin’ Hawk: Meet the Owls of the Area”
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne.
Volunteers from Soarin’ Hawk will bring several owls common to the area and share information about each. After the presentation, Bob Walton of Soarin’ Hawk will lead a short hike and teach us how to “call down” owls. Bring a flashlight if you wish. Dress for the trails and the weather. Fun for all ages.

9 to 10 a.m.
“Short Hikes for Short Legs: Animal Footprints”
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne.
For children ages 3 to 5 and a responsible adult.
Wherever an animal walks on the marsh, it leaves footprints. We’ll start with interactive fun in the barn creating animal tracks in sandboxes. Then we’ll go outside to explore the trails looking for where the animals have walked.
