LUCILLE DULL CELEBRATES 91ST BIRTHDAY
Born in Southern Indiana on June 21st Lucille Dull recently celebrated her 91st birthday with family and friends at Bandido’s on Winchester Road. She didn’t have a birthday cake and ice cream but she said chuckling, “The staff sang that “Special Bandido’s” happy birthday to me.”
About growing up, Lucille speaks of being a coal-miners daughter. She smiles and says, “I have out lived 2 husbands! My high school sweetheart was one of them.”
Lucille has 2 daughters. Sue Grossnickle, Hoagland, Indiana and Bonnie Dunbar, Akron, Indiana. Also, 2 grandsons Ryan Dunbar and Jason Grossnickle, and a granddaughter Jenna Jensen.
After raising her family Lucille taught second grade for 16 years. She went back to school in 1969 and graduated from Manchester College.
After she retired at the age of 62, Lucille decided to volunteer at the local V.A. Her passion for reading brought her to their library. Now she reads for enjoyment, love stories mostly. She said she likes the endings…the happy ever after.
She moved to the beautiful homes in the Waynedale Retirement Community about 4 years ago to be closer to her daughter. She loves Waynedale, the people, restaurants like Pizza Hut and Dairy Queen. And waits patiently for the next Waynedale News to be delivered, “I read it from cover to cover, every bit” she said.
When asked what she attributes her longevity, Lucille responded, “In my family everyone died in their 60s and 70s. I expected to die then too, so I made all the arrangements and paid for my funeral and all. Now the Lord is looking down on me 91 years now, laughing.”
Happy,
Happy birthday Lucille!
