CONCERNS WITH ONLINE SCHOOL – Homeschooling Is Where The Heart Is!

Recently I was contacted by Shawn Ambrose, a homeschooling father and member of the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA), who’s concerned about Indiana’s online public school system, Hoosier Academy, being mistaken as offering a curriculum for homeschooling. This distinction may not seem like a big deal…after all the children are at home learning right? When it comes to protecting our freedom to homeschool our children the details matter!

Shawn’s experience with homeschooling has spanned many years, states, and children, “My wife Melinda and I’ve been homeschooling for 16 years in Ohio, Wyoming, Wisconsin, and Indiana. We have three children who have graduated from homeschool, one enlisted in the military and graduated from the Defense Language Institute, one earned an Associate’s Degree while homeschooling, and is working on her 2nd Bachelor’s Degree, and one is serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We have four children currently enrolled.”

So what exactly does the HSLDA do for families? “The Home School Legal Defense Association is a nonprofit advocacy organization established to defend and advance the constitutional right of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children and to protect family freedoms. We provide homeschooling-related legal advice and representation to our 84,000+ member families, promote homeschool-friendly legislation at the state and federal levels, and offer information and resources to encourage and support all homeschoolers.”
To be continued….
