HOOSIER ACADEMY – Homeschooling Is Where The Heart Is!

You’ll be blessed reading my column this month, not because I wrote it, because I interviewed my friend, Annemarie D., about her homeschooling experience with her children. Her listening ear, encouragement, and advice were priceless to me when I decided to remove my daughter from “the brick schoolhouse.”

I asked Annemarie what worked best for her, “Hoosier Academy, Indiana’s online free public school system was the best! It was organized and a lot of work, but we got it all done. I liked the lists of subjects we had to do each day. I could cross them off as we did them. Our first system didn’t work well for us! We knew what we had to do each day, but the material wasn’t challenging enough and there wasn’t enough work. There was no rigor, which is what my boys needed to keep from getting bored.”

Annemarie also cautions parents not to stay with a curriculum that’s not working, “A mistake I made was sticking with one homeschooling program for three years, which turned out to be the wrong one for my oldest who had struggles reading. I was too stubborn to do any other homeschooling plan. It might seem overwhelming to research many different plans. Talk with others to get a feel for what program and style might work with you!”
To be continued….

Until next month God bless you and your little or not so little ones!
