RID YOURSELF OF CABIN FEVER, TAKE THE LIMBERLOST CABIN CURE
Limberlost State Historic Site is Open for Guided Tours and Hikes all Winter.
Limberlost State Historic Site is keeping the doors of Gene Stratton Porter’s cabin open this winter. The Historic Site is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guests can take a guided tour of the 14-room Queen Ann rustic log cabin home of author, Gene Stratton-Porter or explore some of the 1800 acres of restored Limberlost wetlands with a Limberlost naturalist.
“Most people think that the Limberlost is closed during the winter, but we are open. There’s never a bad time to learn more about the multi-talented author and naturalist, Gene Stratton-Porter. The winter is a great time to take a guided tour of her comfortable and cozy home, the Limberlost Cabin, built in 1895,” said site naturalist Curt Burnette.
Site Manager, Randy Lehman, and staff are fountains of information on the famous author and her historic home. With a warm, Victorian interior, the home offers plenty for guests to explore during their guided tour through the Limberlost Cabin while the staff shares stories about Gene and her life. Guided tours are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for children. No reservation or registration required.
This winter guests can also take advantage of Limberlosts’s Rent-a-Naturalist program and explore the Limberlost Wetlands with Site Naturalist, Curt Burnette. Even in winter, the wetlands offer plenty of learning opportunities and surprises. Guests should call 260.368.7428 or email cburnette@ indianamuseum.org to register a time for their tour of the wetlands. The cost is $20 for an hour, for a group, up to eight people. Registration is required.
The Limberlost Visitor Center and State Historic Site are located at 200 East Sixth Street in Geneva, IN.
