Little River Wetlands Project, a local nature organization protecting almost 1,200 acres of natural and restored wetlands in Allen and Huntington Counties, offers interesting and informative nature events this December and January. All are free and open to the community.

What’s Been Walking Here?
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne.
Join Dane Nagy, Indiana Master Naturalist and expert tracker, to learn how to recognize signs and tracks of animals that walk the marsh in the winter. We’ll start in the barn making tracks of our own and identifying common animal tracks, then hike the preserve to identify animals that have been walking in the mud or snow. Fun for all ages. Dress for the trails and the weather

Breakfast on the Marsh: Salamanders of Eagle Marsh
Light breakfast and nature presentation for nature lovers 50+ at Coventry Meadows Senior Community on W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne. The Nature Conservancy’s Nathan Herbert, salamander expert, will share his knowledge of these interesting amphibians, including results of his research at Eagle Marsh

Meet the Owls of Eagle Marsh
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne. Join us for an evening with the owls! Soarin’ Hawk Raptor Rehab will bring several kinds of owls found in the area and share information about each. Then expert Bob Walton will lead a hike to show us how to “call down” an owl. Dress for the trails and the weather.

Short Hikes for Short Legs: Whose Footprint Is That?
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne. (For children ages 3 to 5 and a responsible adult.) Preschoolers will use sand to make our own tracks; then we’ll hike the trails looking for animal tracks and signs of life. Dress for the trails and the weather
