AUGUST 2014 NATURE EVENTS AT LRWP

Little River Wetlands Project, a local nature organization protecting almost 1,200 acres of natural and restored wetlands in Allen and Huntington Counties, offers interesting and informative nature events this August. All are free and open to the community.
Note that an evening Little River Ramblers hike has been added every Tuesday, in addition to the usual morning hike.

Every Tuesday morning in August, 9 to 11 a.m. “Little River Ramblers.” Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne to hike and explore the preserve’s interesting plants and wildlife.  Sponsored by Little River Wetlands Project. 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
“Evening Ramblers”
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne. Join us for this NEW evening Ramblers for those who want to do a short hike after work to explore the preserve’s interesting plants and wildlife. Dress for the trails and the weather.

Wednesday, August 20
9 to 10 a.m.
“Short Hikes for Short Legs:  Our  Living Rainbow.”
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne. (For children ages 3 to 5 and a responsible adult.) We’ll start in the barn learning the life cycle of butterflies. Then it’s outside for a short hike seeing how many different butterflies we can find nectaring on wildflowers or roosting in the trees at Eagle Marsh.

Wednesday, August 20
7 to 8 p.m.
“The Secrets of Monarch Butterflies.”
Meet at the Aboite Branch Library, 5630 Coventry Lane, Fort Wayne. Join Jody Heaston, Department of Natural Resources, for an interactive presentation about the threatened Monarch butterfly. Learn interesting facts and find out how you can help save this amazing creature.
