APRIL 2014 EVENTS AT LRWP

Little River Wetlands Project, a local nature organization protecting almost 1,200 acres of natural and restored wetlands in Allen and Huntington Counties, offers interesting and informative nature events this February. All are free and open to the community.

*Thursday, April 10
8:30 to 9:45 a.m.
Become a Steward of your own Backyard
Light breakfast and nature presentation for nature lovers 50+ at Coventry Meadows Senior Community on W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne. Join us to learn how you can make your yard friendly to pollinators and other wildlife with inexpensive native plants and grasses.

9 to 10:30 a.m.
Hike the Arrowhead Woods
Meet at the Arrowhead Prairie parking lot, 8624 Aboite Road, Roanoke. John Niemeyer, forester and Indiana Master Naturalist, will lead a hike exploring the wonders of spring in the Arrowhead Marsh woods and other habitats.

1 to 2:30 p.m.
Family Fun Hike: Pond Dipping
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne. At this hike, kids can get right into our ponds’ edges dipping and looking for the swimmers and wigglers that live there. Bring boots or they can borrow ours.

1:30 to 3 p.m.
Eagle Marsh Clean-up
Meet at the Towpath Trailhead parking area on Engle Road, Fort Wayne. Help us protect our preserve’s habitats and the wildlife that depend on them at this annual event to remove winter’s trash. Bring garden rakes, trash bags, and work gloves if you can and be ready to get wet and muddy!

9 to 10:30 a.m.
Short Hikes for Short Legs: Swimmers and Wigglers
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne. (For children ages 3 to 5 and a responsible adult.) We’ll start with an activity in the barn discovering some of the animals that swim and wiggle, then go to our ponds to see more. Dress for the weather.
