Little River Wetlands Project, a local nature organization protecting almost 1,200 acres of natural and restored wetlands in Allen and Huntington Counties, offers interesting and informative nature events this September and October. All are free and open to the community.

Family Fun Hike: Scat-ology
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne. Scat (poop!) reveals the deep dark secret of which animals live at the marsh. Join us to learn basic “scat-ology,” create scat models (using play-dough), then hike to find some of these telltale signs.

Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne to hike and explore the preserve’s interesting plants and wildlife.

Migratory Birds of the Marsh
Meet at the Boy Scout Office parking lot, 8315 W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne. Indiana Master Naturalist Jeff Ormiston and Ed Powers of Stockbridge Audubon Society will help us look for fall birds of Eagle Marsh: migrating shore birds, perching birds and more as well as year-round residents.  Bring binoculars and wear boots if you can.

Miami Indians and the Wabash
Light breakfast and nature presentation for nature lovers 50+ at Coventry Meadows Senior Community on W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne. Larry Wiedman, Professor of Biology at the University of Saint Francis, will present an historic perspective of the Forks of the Wabash and how the Miami Indians influenced the development of this area.

Wonders of Autumn
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne. Children ages 3 to 5 and a responsible adult, join us as we discover the wonders of fall colors on the marsh. We’ll start with an interactive activity in the barn, then take a short hike that includes a colorful scavenger hunt.

Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne for eight-legged fun and learning in the barn. Then we’ll hike through fall colors of the marsh’s prairie area on a scavenger hunt for spiders.
