NEWEST FAMILY TRADITION AT JEFFERSON POINTE

Abundant Life Church Volunteers Adam Miller and Robert Bontrader, along with Keith Fearnow of Jefferson Pointe Shopping Center begin to brighten the holiday season by replacing bulbs in preparation for the Jefferson Pointe Tree Lighting Ceremony. The Christmas season will soon be upon us and that holiday spirit will be in full force—decorating, baking, money dropped into the traditional red kettle and, of course, the lighting of a tree.

This year make it a “special tree lighting”, not just any tree, but the tallest tree to be lit in the Fort Wayne area.

At 7pm, on Saturday, November 17, at the Jefferson Pointe Shopping Center, a 44-foot Christmas tree (not including the 4-foot star) will light the sky. This event is sponsored by French Lick Resort Casino and Vera Bradley.

Katrina Newman, Marketing Manager at Jefferson Pointe reported that they have been preparing for this special moment for weeks, spending 6 to 8 hours a day laying out branches, taking off the old incandescent light bulbs and replacing them with LED lights…saving energy. But saving energy is just a small part of the program. These special lights will also be synchronized to music. Animative Lighting from Kansas was contacted and as Katrina said, “the fun part began.”
After the high school and college students, volunteers from Abundant Life Church, changed out the outdated lights to brighten the season, the branches were assembled starting from the bottom and working all the way to the top-44 feet and counting. Then the trees that surround the shopping area were decorated. From 10am to 9pm on that Magical Day of Giving-as it is called-November 17th, through January 6th from 6:30pm to 10:30pm, all the trees will be dancing to synchronized music–tunes like the familiar Linus and Lucy song, old favorites from the late Andy Williams and Louis Armstrong, Mannheim Steamrollers, just to mention a few.

Gestures of goodwill and the nature of giving, will also be a part of the Jefferson Pointe holiday spirit on this Magical Day of Giving, as they will be selling tickets for exclusive discounts to the stores in the shopping center. The tickets can be purchased for $5 each at the Jefferson Pointe Management Office, located next to Panera Bread. Money raised from these tickets will be given to non-profit organizations. The tickets will be good for one day only-Saturday, November 17th.

Santa will be making an early arrival that day, along with his live reindeer, at 7pm, to greet all the children,. There will also be entertainment from Shawnee Sound Explosion singing around the tree in the courtyard at 5pm, Faith in Motion Dance Studio performing at 5:45pm and from America’s Got Talent-Those Funny Little People from Chicago at 6:30pm.

The tree lighting ceremony will be the first event of the season. An event that will bring back memories of the old Wolff & Dessauer Christmas scenes, the lighting of Santa on Main Street and the Christmas animations that used to be in the Ace Hardware window display here in Waynedale.

Let your Holiday Season begin at the Jefferson Pointe Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday, November 17th.

This moment will be remembered for years to come…make this special event your newest family tradition.
