Little River Wetlands Project, a local nature organization protecting almost 1,200 acres of natural and restored wetlands near Fort Wayne and Huntington, offers interesting and informative nature events this August and September. All are free and open to the community.

“Monarch Festival at Eagle Marsh!”
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn

Everyone is welcome at this free, family-friendly event celebrating the monarch butterfly, thousands of which are likely to be stopping by at Eagle Marsh on their fall migration. The festival will offer information and displays including live monarchs in various stages of metamorphosis, monarch-related crafts, a replica of the butterflies’ migratory path, and interactive games about monarchs. Visitors can hike to watch monarchs nectaring on native plants and can help plant milkweed plugs to serve as nurseries for future monarch generations.
Light breakfast and nature presentation for nature lovers 50+ at Coventry Meadows Senior Community on W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne. Naturalist Sam Schwartz will share his insight and experiences through stories and a slide show of his travels over the years across the many faces of nature in Indiana and Arizona. Learn from this Indiana farm boy who grew up with a strong sense of environmental stewardship as he tells of his many adventures. Sponsored by Little River Wetlands Project. Free. “Sunset Birding Hike”
Meet at the Boy Scout office parking lot, end of Olde Canal Place Drive (opposite Lutheran Hospital entrance on W. Jefferson Blvd.), Fort Wayne for a sunset stroll through Eagle Marsh to see and hear the birds that live here and some of the migratory birds passing through. Bring your binoculars and scopes if you have them.
