AIR SHOW CLEARED FOR TAKEOFF

Look up! The Fort Wayne Air Show is coming Labor Day WeekendThe Fort Wayne Air Show presented by the 122nd Fighter Wing, Fort Wayne Air National Guard Base takes flight Saturday, September 1, 2012 through Sunday, September 2, 2012. The air show will take place at the 122FW Air Guard Base, just off Bluffton Road, on Ferguson Road in Fort Wayne.

Prepare to be dazzled with thrilling aerial performances, aerobatics and demonstrations. “The aircraft to watch for is the F-22 Raptor,” said Major Brian Frazier, with the 122nd Fighter Wing. The F-22 Raptor is the Air Force’s newest fighter aircraft. “You will see the team perform precision aerial maneuvers while demonstrating the unique capabilities of the world’s only operational fifth-generation fighter aircraft. With its stealth design it can perform both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions allowing full realization of operational concepts vital to the 21st century Air Force.” The F-22 Raptor Team members will also exhibit the professional qualities that the Air Force develops in the people who fly, maintain and support the aircraft.

“The second the F-22 lands in Fort Wayne people will hear a noise like they have never heard before as this fighter aircraft is the most advanced in technology and avionics. Fort Wayne is in for a real treat!” said Frazier.

The 2012 Fort Wayne Air Show will welcome a variety of other performers and displays. Performers include The B-25 DAV Flight Team, the Indy Boys and their Jet Powered School Bus, Oliver’s SkyDancer, the Army Golden Knights and many more. Static displays that will be at the air show include the P-51 Mustang, the HH-60 Black Hawk, a T-38 and an A-10 among many others.

Not only will the 2012 Fort Wayne Air Show showcase many of aviations greats, but the air show also has something to enjoy for everyone.

If you or someone in your family uses a mobility aid such as a wheelchair or a walker that may restrict them from being able to see over standing people to observe first hand, The Sensory Access Hour is open to any individual or family who would benefit from these modification.

To get the weekend started, don’t miss your opportunity to buy tickets for the Shigs-In-Pit Barbeque Dinner taking place Friday, August 31, 2012 at 6 pm. There are only 500 tickets available at $40 per person, and they are moving fast!

The Open Air Country Concert will be held Friday, August 31, 2012 at 8:00 pm with a night pyrobatic air show as an intermission not to be missed. The concert will feature chart-topping country artist, Jason Michael Carroll and will open with local, Fort Wayne band Sugar Shot. The country concert will be held at the 122FW Air National Guard Base. The night will have an Americana theme so come dressed in your red, white and blue. Tickets are $10 per ticket and can be purchased online through August 27th or can be purchased at the show.

The 5K and 10K Race will take place Saturday, September 1, 2012, at 7:30 am. The race will be held on the 122FW Air National Guard base with the route passing by the weekend’s featured static displays and other military fighter jets. Participants must register in advance online for $25 at www.fwairshow.com.

The 2012 Fort Wayne Air Show is also providing the option for VIP seating in the SnakePit. The SnakePit offers access to shaded, open air seating from 9am to 5pm. The VIP SnakePit seating is located in a prime position, near the center of the air show for great viewing, provides guests with private restrooms and conveniently located near food concessions. Please note, food is not included in the ticket price. VIP seating in the SnakePit can be purchased for $20 a ticket or a Family Four Pack can be purchased for $75 for four tickets.

The 2012 Fort Wayne Air Show is cleared for takeoff and excited to highlight the nation’s rich military and aviation history. The Fort Wayne Air Show will be donating proceeds earned from the Open Air Country Concert held on August 31, to the Wounded Warrior Project.
