PURDUE AMBASSADORS THRILL AUDIENCES

PURDUE AMBASSADORS THRILL AUDIENCESPurdue University’s ambassadors of song, the Purdue Varsity Glee Club and their female counterparts, the Purduettes, will present a musical program Sunday, March 4 at Bellmont High School. Show time is 3 p.m.

The dynamic ensembles, which have thrilled audiences across the state, the country and around the world, will present a repertoire that ranges from gospel, jazz, swing, religious and contemporary music to romantic ballads, barbershop harmony, folk tunes, patriotic selections and novelty numbers. They will also showcase small groups specializing in a variety of popular music.

The 115-year-old Glee Club has taken its entertaining brand of music throughout the state and across the nation, presenting more than 100 concerts a year. They’ve performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City, at several Presidential Inauguration venues in Washington, D.C. and internationally in Australia, China, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

Founded in 1942, the original Purduettes heartily fulfilled previously-booked appearances of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club when the onset of World War II depleted the Glee Club’s roster. Since then, the Purduettes have continued performing for community, university, corporate, business, private, government, alumni, arts and school events throughout the state and across the nation.

Purdue University, widely known as an outstanding engineering institution, has no music school and offers no music degrees. Glee Club and Purduette members, like students involved in other Purdue Musical Organizations (PMO) ensembles, are studying a wide variety of majors ranging from photography, education, health and fitness, accounting and management to a broad spectrum of sciences and numerous engineering disciplines.
