SALAMONIE’S SENIOR CITIZEN FALL FEST INVITES YOU
We’re gearing up for Senior Fall Fest 2011! Our annual event will be held September 12, 13, 14, and 15 in Lost Bridge West State Recreation Area at Salamonie Reservoir. The four-day program is designed for mature adults and costs just $2 to participate.
This year’s event will focus on history. Kick-off the event with us at the Interpretive Center with Senior Monday—a carry-in meal at 12:30 p.m.—and guest speaker. Bring your table service and a $1 donation for the main dish.
During our event, we’ll be making sauerkraut (which will be served at a future Senior Monday meal); we’ll have old-fashioned games, basket weaving, and learn about native plant remedies. We’ll also have “Granny’s Attic,” a session where we ask that you bring an odd or seldom used item from the past to show and tell others about.
If you are interested in weaving a bread basket, an additional cost of $5 is needed to cover supplies, but be sure to register early. Joan Manning, a basket weaver of 25 years, will lead this session.
Ever wonder what it’s like to run an apple cider press? Don’t miss this chance to find out! Richard Bowman will be overseeing the apple cider making which will be shared during Wednesday’s carry-in lunch. If you join us for lunch, all you’ll need is your table service and a dish to share. The evening’s entertainment will be provided by a local band, God’s Country. If you’re able, please plan to contribute to the band via a free-will donation.
Thursday morning, everyone is invited to join the Cast Iron Butterflies for the carry-in breakfast. The “Butterflies” will be preparing Dutch oven recipes to share. Bring your table service and a dish to share.
A $2 program fee entitles visitors to a program pass to use for the week’s events. Seniors will pay this fee to the interpreters after their arrival and use one program pass for all of the week’s events whether they choose to drive in or stay and camp. Campsites should be reserved using the Central Reservation System. To pay for your site, call 1-866-6CAMPIN or use the internet, www.CAMP.IN.gov. Stay for the week or just visit during the day.
Marvin McNew, Director of the Upper Wabash Interpretive Services, said “Senior Fall Fest features enjoyment in the outdoors and new hobbies for the participants. During this ninth annual event visitors can enjoy relaxing fellowship with other seniors and chance to learn new skills from talented instructors.”
This special event is located in Lost Bridge West Recreation Area on Highway 105 in western Huntington County. There is a $5 entrance fee ($7 for out-of-state vehicles) to enter the Lost Bridge West Recreation Area. Indiana residents may purchase an annual entrance permit for $36. Those age 65 or older may choose to purchase the annual Golden Hoosier Passport entrance permit for $18.
