HOG ROAST TO BENEFIT RESTORATION OF 1941 PUMPER
The original 1941 American Lafrance Wayne Township Pumper #1 is in need of funds to continue its restoration.
The pumper was purchased new in 1941. It was the responder to what is now Southwest Station #1, located on Old Trail Road in Waynedale.
The ’41 still has some of the Wayne Township markings on it.
It’s not certain where this truck ventured to, but it is known that it made it to Arkansas. It was purchased by Jerald Burns from Palestine, AR. Jerald collects antique fire equipment and contacted the fire department when he added the ’41 to his collection.
In 2007, Jerald delivered the truck back home again to Indiana.
When completely restored the old ’41 will return to its original bay located at the rear of Station #1 in Waynedale.
To help restore a piece of Waynedale history back to its original glory the Southwest Fire District Station #1 (Base 50) at 7001 Old Trail Road in Waynedale will be holding a Hog Roast with all the trimmings on Saturday, June 4 starting at 5pm. Come out and enjoy BBQ roasted hog with or without sauerkraut, baked beans, potato salad, drink and homemade dessert. $8 for adults and carryouts. Kids 10 years old and younger are free. Monetary donations are also accepted.
