THE TWIRLING PRINCESS

THE TWIRLING PRINCESSPart one of three

Once upon a time there was a little princess who lived in a castle with a lovely garden behind it. Her parents, the king and queen, lived there also. It was filled with all kinds of flowers. Some of them were tiny and some of them were very big. Some had a lovely smell and some of them did not. All of the flowers had pretty shapes like circles and bell shapes and tear drops and leafy ones.
The name of this princess was Hannah Leigh and she loved to dance in the garden among all the pretty flowers. She wore lovely long pink dresses with lots of material. When she would dance her dress would twirl out and look like a bell. Sometimes she would twirl so fast she would get dizzy and fall to the ground. That would make her laugh with glee and giggle!
She always thought of flowers as friends. She would talk to each one and sing to them. They would seem to sway to music and always looked their best for Hannah Leigh. They loved her and she loved them.
One day a funny thing happened. While she was twirling around and falling down, she heard what sounded like voices. They were high pitched and sounded like a chorus of cherubim (like angels). She scurried through the garden, stopping every now and then to see where the lovely sounds were coming from. Soon she heard a song and it seemed to be saying:
Hannah Leigh, Hannah Leigh
You are so pretty to see.
Wouldn’t you twirl for me,
Hannah Leigh, Hannah Leigh?
She turned around and saw the prettiest flowers swaying in the breeze. They kept singing:
Hannah Leigh, Hannah Leigh
You are so pretty to see.
Wouldn’t you twirl for me,
Hannah Leigh, Hannah Leigh?
She was so surprised that she could hardly speak. Finally she got enough courage to ask the flowers who they were.
“We are pretty blue bells. Would you like to hear our bells?”
Naturally, Hannah Leigh said, “Yes, please let me hear your bells!”
Then all the flowers began to chime and ring. Such a pretty sound they made. It was like little tinkle bells. Hannah Leigh was just delighted and wanted to hear more tinkling of the bells. Finally, one of the blue bells said, “Wouldn’t you twirl for us, Hannah Leigh?” How could she say no after they had played their bells for her. So she twirled and twirled until she was dizzy and fell to the ground. All the little blue bells tinkled and tinkled (that was their way of laughing)…
To be continued.
